My husband was born with one leg about 1 1/2 - 2 inches shorter than the other. His calf muscle was also contracted so that he walked on the toes of his foot (on the shorter side). When he was about 3 or 4 they cut the muscle so that his foot would "drop". He was young and doesn't remember much, and I can't get much info from his family, but it sounds like there wasn't much follow up or physical therepy. Needless to say, his left leg from the knee down has no muscle tone or movement (he cannot point or flex his foot, push off with it or move it side to side).
He did visit an orthopedist or physical therapist years ago, but they told him there was no muscle to work with, so there was nothing they could do. I'd like him to see someone else, but he is too stuborn. He's had this condition his whole life and has adjusted so well that we doesn't see it as a huge burden.
Now that he is 38, it has really taken a toll on his body. I am very worried about the misalignment it is causing to his spine, pelvis and knees. He is starting to get back and leg pain.
I know that most of you don't have medical backgrounds, but I wondering whether you think MT may help with strength and alignment. I haven't gotten them yet, so can't really imagine how they feel.
As much as I want them, I'd rather get them for my DH instead if they will help. I'm sure he'll think they're "silly" if I tell him about them, but if I just buy them without saying anything, maybe hel'll try them. I'm pregnant know and figure I'll hold out until after the baby comes to see what size I should get.
TIA
