I wanted to invite everyone to join the first annual (or maybe more frequent if we really like this) T-Tapp virtual walk race.
The idea is that we choose a date. (I'm thinking that October would be good since it's fall and it gives us enough time to train.) On this date we will all run our own individual race. Think of it, T-Tappers all over the country, the world, walking together yet apart!
Next we choose a distance. Many races have more than one distance to choose from so we'll do the same. I was thinking people could pick from a half mile, 1,2 or 3 miles. I also think that commiting to walking for a specific amount of time would be fine too.
The reason for the flexibility is so that more people can join in the fun!
This virtual race can be done in any type of shoes, weighted or not. If you live in an area where outdoor walking may not be safe or if you prefer to do your virtual race indoors (or need to due to medical concerns I'd be willing to open the option of using a walk video that is of the length of your race commitment.
We can have a training thread to motivate each other.
People can even choose a charity and take pledges if they would like.
If you are interested your first step would be to take a serious look at how far you are currently walking, how far you can easily (and I do mean easily) walk right now and how many days (2-3) a week you could train.
The answers to these questions will provide a clue to the race length you should choose.
Even if you currently walk farther than 3 miles you may want to train for speed or a timed race at a certain distance.
When all is said and done we can report in and add up the miles we walked.
So give it some thought and then share your thoughts here.
