Is it a girl thing? Is it a "me" thing, is it just a fear of authority? I hate calling the utility companies/ credit car people/banks if there is a problem, or to ask about a bill, or negotiate or whatever.
Today I called JUST my local telephone service provider and my Long distance carrier and re-arranged my service so that I am saving at least $23.45/ month. That probably doesn't sound like a lot to some of us, but it adds up to $281.40 a year! Just socking that much away every month would make Christmas shopping, for example, that much easier, or perhaps starting a savings plan! We all hear it over and over, the sooner you start saving the more you will earn over time because of compounded interest.
Ever since my hubby started working in a bank I have learned more about savings, interest, and credit reports than anyone usually does. And that is a shame because it is information that can make a big difference to a lot of people.
For example, we have seen that commercial about "having banks compete for your business", to give you a mortgage. The truth is it is a very easy to use service. But the credit reporting agencies see it as YOU are soliciting to borrow a great deal of money from 4 or more companies at a time. That can drop your credit rating like a stone!
Don't let your kids (older teens) ever apply for credit, just to get the T-shirt or one time 10% discount from the credit card co. at the store. The more times you apply for credit and are denied the lower your rating drops. The more "store" credit cards you have, even if they are at a ZERO balance, the worse of a risk you are, so guess what? It lowers your credit rating! The more address changes you have had over your life can affect your credit too!
It is really amazing to me.
So, I don't know why I am putting this out there, except that maybe it will inspire some of you to look a little deeper at your finances, save a little cash and perhaps learn a few things about your money and where it goes!
We can always use the extra dough for more T-Tapp tapes, right?<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
